The Lighthouse Education Service (LES) is the church's
social action and community outreach ministry. It aims
to make a lasting difference to lives in the community
through education, training, development and other life-enhancing
initiatives.
Projects information:
JAMES KANE NURSERY (JKN)
8am- 5-45pm Monday - Friday
James Kane Nursery was founded in 1994. On the 25th
February 2005 JKN celebrated a decade of being in operation.
JKN provides an affordable quality childcare service
for children aged 2-4 years. JKN provides 32 places
for children living within Lambeth at competitive and
subsidised rates.
The children's learning objectives are based on the
national curriculum. JKN does much more than catering
for the needs of young children. It also provides support
for parents by running Positive Parenting Classes in
conjunction with SureStart.
JKN future plan is to continue to promote the value
of good Christian based nursery service. Added to that
increase access for children aged 0-5 years.

LIGHTHOUSE SATURDAY SCHOOL (LSS)
9am-12pm Music Classes 12-4pm
Lighthouse Saturday School provides supplementary education
and music classes for disadvantaged children and young
people aged 4-16 years.
The supplementary education covers three core subjects
English Language, Mathematics and Science. LSS also
supports and prepare children and young people for examinations.
In 2005 many of the young people did very well in their
GCSEs.
In the future LSS plans to better target the specific
needs of the children, especially those preparing for
primary SATs tests in years 2 and 6.
LSS runs a music school which offers Keyboard Classes.
Scholarship is offered to children with parents on benefits.
KEEP FIT and HEALTH PROMOTION
6pm-7pm Every Tuesday
The Keep Fit and Health Promotion Project offer health
care and support to disadvantaged low income individuals.
Each individual is given advice about excise, diet and
nutrition.
ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROJECT (AEP)
This project will be in operation early next year (2007).
The Alternative Education Project will offer a service
to excluded children or those facing exclusion. The
children will be offered either educational or vocational
studies. From 9am-3pm the project will run like a school,
in the evening the project will run as a Youth Club.
The youth workers will act as mentors to the young
people and children who access the service.
