Cast Thy Bread Upon the Waters

{
Cast Thy Bread Upon the Waters
Ec 11:}

MISSION SONG-P. P. Van Arsdale
ST. SYLVESTER-John Bacchus Dykes

Cast Thy Bread Upon the Waters
1 Cast thy bread upon the waters,
Thinking not 'tis thrown away;
God hath said that thou shalt gather
Rich rewards some future day.
Cast thy bread upon the waters,
Wildly though the billows roll;
They but aid thee as thou toilest,
Truth to spread from pole to pole.

Cast thy bread upon the waters,
Why, oh, why still doubting stand?
God shall send a bounteous harvest
If ye sow with lib'ral hand.
Give then freely of thy substance,
O'er this cause the Lord doth reign;
Cast thy bread and toil with patience,
Thou shalt labor not in vain.

Cast thy bread upon the waters,
Ye who have abundant stores;
It may float on many billows,
It may strand on many shores;
You may think it lost forever,
But as sure as God is true,
In this life or in the other,
It will yet return to you.
