Note on Psalm 119
Psalm 119 is an acrostic psalm. In each section of eight lines, the lines begin with one of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Each portion above contains 16 lines – 2 sections, each with eight lines starting with the same letter. In English, this is completely invisible.
The psalm speaks on the excellence of God’s word. It uses a number of different words, each with its nuances, to refer to different aspects of God’s instruction or Torah given to His people. These words include Torah (translated here as Law, but better understood as Instruction), testimonies, ways, precepts, statutes, commandments, judgements, ordinances, works and words!
We recommend you take each section and meditate on it in isolation from the next.
