Introduction to the Books of the Bible
Psalms
The Book of Psalms is a collection of 150 poems, hymns, and prayers that express the feelings of Jewish people throughout various periods of their national history. It is often referred to as the hymnbook or “prayer book” of the Bible. The Psalms vary widely in content and tone, including cries of lament, shouts of praise, and other liturgies and meditations on Israel’s life before God.
The Psalms have many authors and are said to have been compiled by Ezra, the scribe. The are used in song and prayer around the world.
