Note on Psalms 120-134
The annotation at the beginning of most psalms forms part of the psalm, giving guidance for musicians or presented context. In the Hebrew Bible, these form part of the first verse.
These fifteen psalms begin with the annotation “A song of ascents”. They were recited by pilgrims “going up” to Jerusalem on specific feasts of the Lord. You used them to “reset” your heart and mind so that you are ready to present yourself before the Lord!
