Introduction to the Books of the Bible
The Revelation
The Book of Revelation, also known as the Apocalypse, is the final book of the New Testament. It is a prophetic work attributed to John the Apostle, who received visions from Jesus Christ while exiled on the island of Patmos.
The book contains many figurative illustrations that can be difficult to interpret. There are differing opinions on whether the book talks about past events or allegorically about visions of the future. Some of the imagery stems from John’s Jewish experience (i.g. the Book of Life!) Ultimately, the Book of Revelation offers hope and encouragement to believers, assuring them of God’s ultimate victory over evil and the establishment of His eternal kingdom.
