The leadership in The Apostolic Church Walthamstow has encouraged people in their ministries for many years.
The project facilitates anyone who desires to express their gratitude to the Lord through song, poetry, word, and testimonials. The event is attended by Christians who help support the project and non-believers. A number of attendees are recovering alcoholics. Some are people in particular women who have experienced domestic abuse. There is a time of ministration in each session as the Lord leads.
Gospel Karaoke Community Engagement Project
The idea for the “After Church Karaoke Gospel Jam” event originated several years ago when Gary Dixon was part of a praise and worship team in a church in Walthamstow, East London. They had a social gathering at his home where they set up instruments and had a jam session with the musicians and singers/choir in attendance. The experience brought them much joy. They received positive feedback, leading to expanding the project to the broader community.
In April 2023. With the support of Pastor Birkett and leaders from The Apostolic Church in Boundary Road, Walthamstow, they could relaunch the event and hold it immediately after the church service in April 2023. The turnout was fantastic, with a shortage of chairs to accommodate everyone. Since then, they have successfully held the event on the third Sunday of each month, including a well-attended December gathering while ‘Shining Our Light.’ People travelled for hours to join them for two hours of gospel-inspired singing & celebration.
Anyone is welcome to bring their own instrument and join – in the name of Jesus Christ.
The event provides a safe space for participants, whether they want to perform a poem, spoken word, or sing a gospel-inspired song. Simply start the song, and their musicians will find the key and accompany.
The team includes many from the congregation. Pastor Birkett oversees the opening and closing prayers.
