On a hot early August Saturday morning, ladies of different ages gathered at the Orpington Village Hall. This was the ANC Ladies‘ Summer Social! The tables were set out at one end. Along the far wall, easels awaited artists. As each person walked through those doors, the others greeted them with smiles and cries of delight, hugs and dancing. It was not long before the chat of catchups and sharing drowned out the victory cries from the Ludo.

After worship and opening prayer, the fun began. Two dozen easels became the focus of chat and laughter as paint and canvas danced to a lone palm tree on a beach. Those working in the kitchen brought out the free-flowing food with the oft-called cry, “is the fish ready?” Every person was filled. Good thing too – the rest of the afternoon involved a lot of dancing. The games actively involved everyone and caused much hilarity and appreciation.
The Importance of Being Together
There was plenty of time to catch up. The organisers had set up one quiet corner with massage chairs to ease aching muscles. It was a corner that was not often empty.

Talking with some of the ladies afterwards, two things stood out! It was fun, and it was good to be together. One sister quoted Psalm 133:1 “How good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!” All gave God thanks for the event. They looked forward to other events like this and prayed for a blessing upon the leadership. One lady suggested that they had experienced the discovery of many new talents among the women. God’s anointing oil flowed that day.
