Expectations were given. The Presbytery had laid the challenge down. Today, we saw the call answered as over a hundred players and supporters turned up for today’s football match.

First Half

Presbytery Starting Team
The Presbytery presented a strong team to start the match

The Presbytery demonstrated a powerful presence to start with. The opposition scrambled to initially gather players, however, the match soon kicked off with even sides. A battle royale commenced. However, the strength of the younger players kept the ball in the Presbytery end for the first half. The Opposition’s defenders and excellent goalkeeping rudely stole away the Presbytery’s chances. At half-time, with a nearby thunderstorm sending rain sweeping across the pitch, the score stood at 0-4.

Supporters braved the rain and provided much needed support.
Play continued even though rain made the pitch slippery

The rain did not dampen the spirits of the supporters, who chanted from the sidelines.

Second half

The second half began whilst the rain was fading and the sun fighting to break through the clouds. Elder Soji intercepted a slow pass. The Elder, who’s speed surprised and overcame the Opposition’s defence, scored their first goal. A second chance presented itself shortly afterwards. Two defenders chased down Elder Faradoye. It was Bro Sheehy who tipped the ball just too high for the keeper, resulting in a spectacular own goal.

The Opposition managed to keep the lead by scoring two more goals. However, this did not break the spirit of the Presbytery, who pushed forward valiantly to the end. An opportunity presented itself when a handball gave the Presbytery a penalty. The penalty was saved, dashing the Presbytery’s hope for a comeback.

The final whistle sealed the game. The final score was 2-6 to the World.

Everyone got a touch of the ball and there were opportunities for all. The youngest players really showed their skill. Overall, spirits where high. After prayer and saying the grace together, everyone left the football match on a high.
