Persecution of Christians in Manipur

Persecution of Christians in Manipur

Following last month’s report, news has been received that the persecution of Christians in Manipur continues unabated.

Manipur is an Indian state in the North East of the Country that borders Myanmar. It is the only state in India with a high percentage of Christians. The ruling BJP Party in India have refused to reign in extremist groups by promoting divisive Hindu majoritarianism. In this current round of violence, over 150 churches have been burnt, 100 killed and over 40,000 people displaced from their homes. This anti-Christian violence has resulted in revenge attacks which the Government then uses to justify its stance.

Please pray with urgency over this current state of affairs. Also, pray for the Church in Manipur that they may have the sustaining grace of God to persevere and not resort to revenge.

See the following news article from Human Rights Watch and the Wire.

The Apostolic Church has missions in many northern states of India.

Update 8 July 2023 – Extremists have burned down 250 churches in 36 hours. Church leaders have called for all churches to pray as one for Manipur and all of north India on Sunday, 9 July. Pray for the believers under persecution, for the churches, and for the families who lost their beloved ones. Intercede for all who have lost their homes, their belongings. Ask the Lord to restore peace and harmony. Most of all, pray for the believers to hold their testimony of faith and to cling to Him to the end.

Christians in Manipur formed a 40 km prayer chain to pray for their nation.
