Should You Find Me Naked

Reflections: Should You See Me Naked

Theme: Preaching the Reflections – What to do should you see me naked? Would you follow the example of Shem and Japheth, or would compassion fail you, as is common today?

Introduction

In today’s culture, grace and compassion are rare. People are quick to expose each other’s weaknesses instead of offering grace. Elder Kola emphasizes the importance of covering each other’s faults and mistakes.

Definition of Nakedness

Nakedness is defined as a state of shame, brokenness, weakness, failure, exposure, or a fall from grace.

Everyone is susceptible to moments of mistakes, shame, or sin. Even faithful individuals like Noah and David had their moments of vulnerability. Seeing someone naked reminds us of our own need for grace.

Nakedness can be caused by faults such as addictions, bad decisions, loss of a job, or the death of a loved one. It can also be non-fault, such as illness or other uncontrollable circumstances.

Being naked or vulnerable can evoke feelings of fear, uncertainty, paranoia, and anxiety. It exposes personal struggles and opens one to potential judgment.

What to Do When Naked

  • Trust God and have faith.
  • Take necessary actions like seeking professional help.
  • Speak to trusted family and friends for support.

Possible Actions When Seeing Someone Naked

  • Acknowledge and ignore.
  • Pretend not to see.
  • Acknowledge and help.

What Should Not Be Done to the Naked

  • Do not laugh or rejoice at someone’s weakness.
  • Avoid passing judgment.
  • Do not magnify people’s mistakes or share their shame.

Practical Steps to Cover the Naked

  • Follow Jesus’ example of covering rather than shaming.
  • Stop gossiping and be selfless in covering each other’s shame.
  • Approach situations with grace and protect the person’s dignity.
  • Be quick to cover the person’s shame and offer comfort and support.

Conclusion

Elder Kola concluded by calling on believers to follow the example of Shem and Japheth by covering others with love and grace. He reminded believers to reflect Christ’s love, compassion, comfort, and support for those in vulnerable positions.

Sermon Notes

Reflections: Should You See Me Naked

On Reflection, Would You Join Us?

We meet in person at the All Nations’ Centre, Tyers Terrace, London SE11 5LY. You are very welcome to join us. All our Sunday Services start at 9.30 am. The doors open at 8.30 am, and the prayer service begins at 9 am. The All Nations’ Centre is where the community meets with God as a congregation. Please help us to make it a welcoming environment for all.

There are many advantages to meeting together. As the writer of the book of Hebrews writes, “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25) Do not miss this opportunity to meet and encourage your brothers and sisters! Often, we provide personal ministry and one-to-one encounters. Do not miss out on an opportunity to meet with God and be transformed. Do not miss out!
